Dr. Jashwant Gangaram Patel completed his MBBS and MS (Master of Surgery) degrees from Gujarat University, his General Surgery Residency at Flushing Hospital, Cornell University, New York and his Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency at Kings Brook Jewish Medical Center, New York. He completed his fellowship in Pain Medicine from the Medical College of Pennsylvania, Hahnemann University in Philadelphia and 1996 and served as a Visiting Scientist at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), Research Triangle Park, North Carolina for 5 years, before moving to the Central Coast of California in 2001 to start his pain medicine practice. As a Medical Doctor with over 25 years of experience in Spine and Pain Management, he performs advanced surgeries and procedures for pain in the USA. Dr. Patel also is currently a Medical Director and the owner of the CASC (Cypress Ambulatory Surgery Center) and Pain Management Practice on the Central Coast of California.

Dr. Jashwant Patel is involved in various social and community organizations and is on the board of several organizations. He serves on the board of directors for FIIDS (Federation of India and Indian Diaspora Studies) and Param Shakti Peeth of America. He serves on the National Advisory Council (NAC) for the National Institute of Media, Communication, and Research (NIMCaR), Ahmedabad. Dr. Patel was part of the historic reception of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in San Jose in September 2016 and had arranged a meeting of Gujarati leaders with the Prime Minister.  He has been a part of Dhanvantari Seva Yatra in the northeast of India for many years and has done Medical Camps in Meghalaya, Assam, Majuli and Arunachal Pradesh. He is very active in teaching yoga and has organized multiple yoga education sessions in the USA. He has organized International Yoga Day every June since 2015 in California and has been a Swayam Sevak of RSS / HSS since 1972.

Board Member

Dr. Vimal Patel received his Ph.D. in Nutritional Biochemistry from the University of California, Davis in 1969. He was the recipient of the National Institute of Health Fellowship in Neuropathology from 1970 through 1974. He has also qualified as an Ayurveda Ratna, from the Allahabad University, in 1996 where he studied under practicing Ayurvedic Physicians.

Dr. Vimal Patel was an Associate Professor of Neuropathology (Retired) at the Indiana University School of Medicine, where he served as Director of Neurochemistry Diagnostic Laboratory at the Department of Pathology for 34 years, from 1970 to 2004. He also served as a Visiting Professor and Advisor to the President of Martin University in Indianapolis. During his active career, he established the Indiana Institute of Integrative Medicine and served as its Director and President. He has also published a few papers in the field of experimental pathology, integrative medicine and performed pioneering research in Ayurvedic Rasayana. Dr. Vimal Patel was empaneled into the 21-member NIH Panel for evaluating integrative medicine centers, from 2000 to 2004, where he was responsible for disbursing over $ 130 Million to various centers.

In his more than 50 years of residence in Indianapolis, he has been involved in the establishment of several social and religious organizations, catering to the Hindu community and culture. He is a founding member of India Community Center, the Geeta Mandal of Indianapolis and its Balagokulam, a past director of Vishwa Hindu Parishad America, a Founding member of the Hindu Temple of Central Indiana, Hindu American Vanaprasthi Network (HAVAN), a Board member of Center for Interfaith Cooperation (CIC) in Indianapolis. In his post-retirement period, he is actively engaged in Interfaith dialogues representing Hindu Dharma with many different organizations, including schools and churches.

Prof Ved Nanda, MA.Ph.D

Chairman of the Board

Padma Bhushan Prof. Ved Nanda serves as the Chairman of the Board of Hindu University of America. Dr. Nanda is a Professor of Law at the Sturm College of Law, University of Denver and serves as Director Emeritus of the International Legal Studies Program there. In 2006, Professor Nanda was honored with the founding of the Nanda Center for International Law. He served as Vice Provost at the University of Denver from 1994-2008. He holds or has held numerous official posts in international, regional, and national professional and civil society organizations. He is widely published, having authored or co-authored 24 books in various fields of international law. Prof. Ved Nanda has also received a number of awards including the Gandhi, King, Ikeda Award for Community Peace Building.

Mr. Kalyan Viswanathan

Mr. Kalyan Viswanathan received his Master’s Degree in Computer and Information Science from Ohio State University and his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science. He has studied the texts and traditions of Hinduism from an Advaita Vedānta perspective through a 21-year association with Pujya Swami Dayananda Saraswati, Founder of the Arsha Vidya Gurukulam group of institutions and the first Convener of the Hindu Dharma Acharya Sabha. He serves as the President of Dharma Civilization Foundation (established 2012) based in Los Angeles and is also the Founder and President of Sanatana Dharma Foundation, Dallas, Texas (established 2007). He has had a long-standing interest in the promotion of the academic study of Hindu Dharma and played a key role in the establishment of the Mira and Ajay Shingal Center for Dharma Studies at the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley, California. In his prior career, he was a global practice director for an internationally known software consultancy Services firm. He is a member of the Board of Hindu University of America, and currently services as its interim President and Executive Vice President. He also teaches in the Continuing Education and Certification Division.

Dr. Manohar Shinde

Board Member

Dr. Manohar Shinde, M.D., Ph.D. Psychiatry, was on the teaching clinical faculty of UCLA & USA schools of Medicine and at the “Institute for contemporary psychoanalysis” (ICP). He has also served as a Medical director in many institutions and has retired from 29 years of private practice in Glendale, Los Angeles. Dr. Shinde is a community leader with an extensive track record of philanthropy and service and has impacted thousands of people. He serves on the board of several non-profit organizations serving the Indian community in North America.

Dr. Yashwant Pathak

Board Member

Prof. Yashwant Pathak, M.Sc., Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Technology from Nagpur University, India and EMBA and MS in Conflict Management from Sullivan University, KY, USA. He is the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs at the College of Pharmacy, University of South Florida. Tampa, Florida. With extensive experience in academia as well as industry, he has to his credit more than 100 publications and 2 patents, including 5 books in Nanotechnology and 2 in Nutraceuticals and several books in cultural studies. He is also the Coordinator for the International Center for Cultural Studies and is on the board of many organizations.

Dr. Shekhar Patel

Vice President, Secretary & Treasurer

In addition to his role as Vice President of HUA, Dr. Patel is the President of International Center for Cultural Studies, USA Inc. He has a Doctorate degree in Biosystems Engineering from Oklahoma State University.
