Overview
The Doctor of Hindu Studies at HUA is a groundbreaking program, distinct in its comprehensive approach to research and practice in Applied Hindu Studies. Unlike traditional academic paths, the DHS is designed to be inherently interdisciplinary, integrating advanced Hindu scholarship with practical applications in both academic and non-academic institutional spaces. This program is unique in preparing students to become both rigorous field researchers and thought leaders who can apply a Hindu lens to contemporary challenges across various domains, such as education, psychology, environmental policy, temple administration, and public policy. Curriculum Structure
The DHS is a 60-credit (20 course) degree for those who have an MA in Hindu Studies. Students with masters degrees in related disciplines may have to take coursework in addition to the 60 credits. The DHS culminates in a Doctoral Study, representing original field research. Students should plan to take at least 2 courses per semester. The DHS must be completed within 10 years.

The fee for Doctor of Hindu Studies (DHS) is $500 per credit. The total program fee would be $30,000

HUA recommends that students enroll in at least 2 classes per semester, beginning the first semester after they have been accepted. Students who may find that they need to postpone their start date should contact the admissions office at admissions@hua.edu to apply for a deferment.
List of Required Documents for Application
Applicants must have an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution. As part of the admission application process, candidates are required to submit transcripts that provide a comprehensive academic record, encompassing all completed undergraduate and graduate coursework. Applicants must ensure that each institution awarding postsecondary-level course credits is added to their application, including degree-granting institutions, postgraduate courses, and study abroad programs. All transcripts must clearly display full course titles, credit hours, and final grades. A Masters degree in Hindu Studies or related discipline is required. Applicants with Masters degrees in other disciplines will be considered, but may be accepted under the condition that they take additional coursework.
Applicants should submit a statement (1000 words) detailing their background in Hinduism, including any formal education, personal study, or instruction by traditional Hindu teachers. They should articulate their reasons for pursuing the DHS program, how it aligns with their scholarly goals, and their proposed area of research.
Applicants should submit two letters of recommendation from professional, academic, or other references who can speak to their skills, attitudes, and knowledge relevant to their potential success as graduate students in the DHS program at HUA.
A writing sample (around 5000 words) that demonstrates the applicant’s analytical and writing abilities. This could be a published paper, their master’s thesis, or any other substantial piece of academic writing.
A current CV detailing academic background, professional experience, publications, and any relevant activities or achievements.
