Dr. Raj Vedam is a faculty member at the Hindu University of America, where he teaches courses on the History and Philosophy of Science in India, with a special focus on Indian history and astronomy.. His work offers a fresh, evidence-based view of India’s intellectual heritage, emphasizing its profound understanding of astronomy, mathematics, and cosmology. He engages students in exploring how ancient India’s understanding of the cosmos has influenced both cultural and scientific paradigms.
Dr. Vedam holds a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Oregon State University, Corvallis, USA. With over 26 years of professional experience in the Power, Electronic Design Automation, and Oil & Gas industries, he has worked at the confluence of applied mathematics, engineering, algorithms, and computer science. His engineering career includes multiple patents, international journal and conference publications, and contributions to trajectory planning for space missions.
An avid backyard astronomer and astrophotographer since 1995, Dr. Vedam has combined his engineering expertise with a deep study of the mathematics of orbits, leading him to investigate ancient Indian methods for predicting planetary movements recorded in Vedic texts and epics such as the Rāmāyaṇa and Mahābhārata. Working with tools from archaeogenetics, archaeoastronomy, and archaeology, he has developed a strong, evidence-based thesis on the antiquity of Indian civilization and the many discoveries made in ancient India, including evidence of knowledge transfers from India to other parts of the world.
Dr. Vedam has delivered over 100 lectures in India and the US on the scientific validation of historical narratives about India and has conducted a dozen high school teacher training workshops in India to promote a multi-disciplinary approach to history. His contributions also include revising history textbooks for the Texas Education Agency and for the state of Telangana.
In addition to his academic and research work, Dr. Vedam serves as the Director of Arsha Vidya Satsanga, a Houston-based non-profit organization dedicated to Indic education.
