Wisdom at the Lake: Unraveling Yaksha-Prashna
Recent Webinar: Monday, December 29, 2025, 5 pm PT / 8 pm ET / 6:30 am IST (Tue, Dec 30)
About the Webinar:
Join us for a thought-provoking webinar based on the HUA course Wisdom at the Lake: Unraveling Yaksha-Prashna, where we explore one of the most iconic and philosophically rich dialogues from the Mahābhārata. In this episode, Yudhishṭhira encounters a mysterious Yakṣa by a lake, posing him a series of profound questions about dharma, life, death, virtue, and the nature of the self.
Led by Dr. Suryanarayana Nanda, students will dive deeply into the Sanskrit text, examining grammar (vyākaraṇa), syntax, and literary structure to uncover the layered meaning and rhetorical power of this dialogue. The course invites participants to recite selected verses, analyze their metrical forms, and interpret how these questions and answers reflect moral and metaphysical truths.
Beyond the technical study, this webinar will highlight how the Yakṣa–Yudhishṭhira exchange offers timeless insights into ethics and spiritual wisdom. We will reflect on how this legendary scene reveals guidance for living with integrity, humility, and compassion in modern times. Whether you are a student of Sanskrit, a seeker of wisdom, or someone interested in how ancient texts inform our ethical lives, this session offers a meaningful opportunity to connect with the deeper currents of our tradition.
