Will Hindus Ever Transcend Caste?
Recent Webinar: Saturday, June 21, 2025, 9 am PT / 12 pm ET / 9:30 pm IST

About the Webinar:
Most Hindus have grown up hearing that Hinduism has always had a rigid “Caste system.” This perception has been deeply embedded in school textbooks, media, and academic discourse. But is this understanding accurate?
In this thought-provoking webinar, we will explore how colonial interpretations and Western paradigms reshaped and misrepresented the indigenous concepts of Varṇa and Jāti, leading to the creation of what we now call the “Caste system.” We will uncover how terms like Casta, which originated from Spanish and Portuguese colonial contexts, were superimposed onto Hindu society and how this shaped global perceptions of India.
By unpacking this historical entanglement, the session will shed light on the importance of intellectual decolonization, inviting attendees to reexamine long-held beliefs and engage with Hindu thought on its own terms.
Join us as we reclaim a more accurate understanding of our heritage grounded in Dharma, not distortion.
In this webinar, you will:
- Gain an overview of the 10-week course and what to expect
- Learn the difference between Varṇa, Jāti, and “Caste”
- Understand the historical and political forces behind caste-based identities
- Reflect on the importance of intellectual decolonization in reclaiming Hindu thought on its own terms

Distinguishing Varna and Jati from Caste
HSF4000 – The Caste System invites both persistent international discourse as well as relentless intervention. This discourse misinforms, embarrasses, and shames the Hindu community worldwide, in as much as it energizes and activates the social justice warriors and reformers of the day.
Distinguishing Varna and Jati from Caste this course is designed to provide some light, where heat is more prominently present. It provides a searching examination of how the Caste System as it has come to be known today was constructed and established as an essential aspect of Hinduism. This course is designed to assess, challenge, clarify, demystify, and transform.
