Program Information
Program Overview: The Master of Arts in Sanskrit (MSV) program offers immersive study in Sanskrit, progressing students from proficiency to mastery. Taught entirely in Sanskrit, it transforms enthusiasts into scholars who can rigorously engage with Hindu knowledge systems. Emphasizing the importance of learning Sanskrit for direct access to source texts, the program allows students to explore spiritual, literary, and scientific works without relying on translations. Through research and practice, students apply insights from the Vedas, Vedānta, Itihāsa, Purāṇas, and other texts, while also preparing for doctoral studies in Hindu Studies.
Curriculum Structure: This two-year program offers flexible completion options. Learners can choose to complete it in two years with four courses per semester, or extend their studies to four years with two courses per semester to better suit their schedule.
Program Overview: HUA’s Master of Arts in Hindu Studies offers a comprehensive foundation in Hindu philosophy, culture, and traditions, designed for those seeking a deep understanding of Hinduism in both theoretical and applied contexts. Curriculum Structure: The MA in Hindu Studies is a 36-credit (12 course) degree across . Full time students complete the program in 2 years. Students who wish to pursue a Masters with Honors write a Master’s Thesis. The Master’s Thesis is required for students wishing to continue on to the DHS. Both the MA and the MA with Honors must be completed within 5 years.
Program Overview: The Doctor of Hindu Studies at HUA is a groundbreaking program, distinct in its comprehensive approach to research and practice in Applied Hindu Studies. Unlike traditional academic paths, the DHS is designed to be inherently interdisciplinary, integrating advanced Hindu scholarship with practical applications in both academic and non-academic institutional spaces. This program is unique in preparing students to become both rigorous field researchers and thought leaders who can apply a Hindu lens to contemporary challenges across various domains, such as education, psychology, environmental policy, temple administration, and public policy. By combining rigorous academic study with world-class research skills, the DHS at HUA offers an unparalleled opportunity for students to contribute meaningfully to both the Hindu community and broader society.
Curriculum Structure: The DHS is a 60-credit (20 course) degree for those who have an MA in Hindu Studies. Students with masters degrees in related disciplines may have to take coursework in addition to the 60 credits. The DHS culminates in a Doctoral Study, representing original field research. Students should plan to take at least 2 courses per semester. The DHS must be completed within 10 years.
