Course Description

SAN1024 – (BGTS – Required Course) The Fourth and final quarter of the Intermediate Phase of the Bhagavad Gita through Samskritam course continues to enhance students' grasp and understanding of passive voice. At the end of this course, students will be able to employ different tenses and verb forms in passive voice. Students will also analyze and compose the meanings of ślokas from Chapters 3 and 4 of the Bhagavad Gītā and explain the philosophical concepts covered therein. At the end of this course, students will be ready to progress to the Advanced Phase of the program.

Course Learning Objectives

In this course, students will be able to relate to words and expressions from the Bhagavad Gītā in the following areas:

  • Employ different grammatical constructs, verb forms and tenses in passive voice.
  • Generate padavibhāga, anvaya kramaḥ and tātparyam of ślokas in the 3rd adhyāya of the Bhagavad Gītā.
  • Paraphrase the meanings in Saṃskṛtam of ślokas in the 3rd and the 4th adhyāyas of the Bhagavad Gītā.

Course Content

This course will deep dive into the use of passive voice forms with use of various verb forms and tenses. Students will articulate scenarios and text in passive voice as well as respond to related questions. The course will also cover a detailed examination of ślokas from Chapters 3 and 4 of the Bhagavad Gītā. Students will compose the meanings using Anvaya method in Saṃskṛtam.

Class Structure

Students will have a dedicated 1.5 hours of contact time with the faculty each week. The class is carefully structured to facilitate effective learning in an online face-to-face format. The curriculum is designed to build upon the knowledge gained in previous classes. Regular homework assignments will provide valuable opportunities to practice the concepts covered in class. Successful completion of the course requires the submission of graded homework and the final Quarter End Exam (QEE).
