Introduction to Sanskrit Sounds
LAN0100 – This two-weekend immersion course, ‘Introduction to Sanskrit Sounds’, introduces students to the sounds and script of Sanskrit in an engaging, interactive format. Through call-and-response recitation, color-coded handwriting, and melodious chanting, participants will learn precise pronunciation, breath control, and rhythm while memorizing the Sanskrit alphabet in Devanāgarī. Group practice and individual recitation ensure clarity, confidence, and instant feedback. By the end of the first weekend, students will be able to lead the class in reciting the full alphabet and reading simple words. The second weekend introduces Pāṇini’s grammar sūtras, Śiva Sūtrāṇi, and conjunct consonant rules, establishing a foundation for sight reading and further Sanskrit study. No prior experience is required.
