Over two thousand years ago, the sage Patañjali distilled the vast and diverse teachings of yoga into a series of profound aphorisms, the Yoga Sutras, that map the pathway from mental turbulence to inner stillness and liberation. This webinar invites participants to engage with these teachings as a living practice, revealing how yoga is not merely a set of physical postures but a complete system for mastering the mind, refining awareness, and aligning one’s life with dharma.
 
We will explore how the Yoga Sutras illuminate the inner dynamics of transformation, how discipline (abhyāsa), detachment (vairāgya), and discernment can be cultivated to transcend the fluctuations of thought. We will see how the eightfold path, or Aṣṭāṅga Yoga, offers a holistic vision that integrates ethics, breath, concentration, and meditation into a coherent journey toward self-realization. Drawing from classical insights and contemporary reflections, this session bridges the gap between philosophy and practice, making these ancient teachings relevant to our modern lives.

Dr. Shriram Sarvotham

Dr. Shriram Sarvotham is a highly respected faculty member in the Department of Yoga Studies at Hindu University of America, with over 30 years of experience in teaching yoga. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Rice University, Houston, and currently works as a senior engineer in the tech industry in the Bay Area, California.
