SAN1033 – (CEP/BGTS – Required Course) The Third quarter of the Advanced Phase of Bhagavad Gita through Samskritam will introduce students to the concepts of samāsas in Saṃskṛtam. At the end of this course, students will be able to understand the apply the concepts of samāsas in their Saṃskṛtam communications. This quarter also focuses on Chapter 5 of the Bhagavad Gītā understanding the concepts illustrated through the ślokas.

Course Learning Objectives

In this course, students will be able to relate to words and expressions from the Bhagavad Gītā in the following areas:

  • Recognize different types of samāsas.
  • Employ different types of samāsa in sentences.
  • Synthesize padavibhāga, anvaya kramaḥ and tātparyam of ślokas in the 5th adhyāya of the Bhagavad Gītā.
  • Explain the meanings of ślokas in the 5th adhyāya of the Bhagavad Gītā in Saṃskṛtam.

Course Content

In this course students will add Samasas to their repertoire of Saṃskṛtam grammar. The course continues to examine the Bhagavad Gītā focusing on chapter 5 where students will continue to perform the Anvaya translations and explain the concepts in Saṃskṛtam.

Class Structure

Students will have a dedicated 1.5 hours of contact time with the faculty each week. The class is carefully structured to facilitate effective learning in an online face-to-face format. The curriculum is designed to build upon the knowledge gained in previous classes. Regular homework assignments will provide valuable opportunities to practice the concepts covered in class. Successful completion of the course requires the submission of graded homework and the final Quarter End Exam (QEE).
