Course Description

SAN1042 – (CSBG – Required Course) The Second quarter of the Proficiency phase of Samskritam Through Bhagavad Gita program focuses on the Bhagavad Gītā chapters 11 through 13. At the end of this course students will be able to apply the Saṃskṛtam concepts and grammar learnt in this course to perform Anvaya translations and articulate the meanings of the ślokas. This quarter will also offer the students an opportunity to explain their views on the important concept of Viśwarūpadarśana in the Bhagavad Gītā.

Shri. Satish Srinivasan

Shri. Satish Srinivasan, Sanskrit faculty at HUA’s Community Education Division since 2022 is very passionate about learning, revival and expansion of the Sanskrit language. He has been teaching Sanskrit with ARSHA VIDYA BHARATHI since 2019. Satish lives in the Houston Metro Area with his family. His other interests include reading, tennis, swimming and spending time with his family.

Course Learning Objectives

In this course, students will undertake detailed study of Bhagavad Gītā in the following areas:

  • Prepare the padavibhāga, anvaya kramaḥ and tātparyam of ślokas in the adhyāyas 11-13 of the Bhagavad Gītā.
  • Paraphrase the essential concepts of the adhyāya 11 through 13 of Bhagavad Gītā in Saṃskṛtam.
  • Summarize ideas on the Viśwarūpadarśana.

Course Content

In this course students will continue to demonstrate their understanding of the Saṃskṛtam concepts and Bhagavad Gītā learnt so far in the course. Students will also perform the Anvaya translations and explain the meanings (tātparyam) of ślokas from chapters 11 through 13. As part of this course students will have a discussion and provide their insights on the Viśwarūpadarśana.

Class Structure

Students will have a dedicated 1.5 hours of contact time with the faculty each week. The class is carefully structured to facilitate effective learning in an online face-to-face format. The curriculum is designed to build upon the knowledge gained in previous classes. Regular homework assignments will provide valuable opportunities to practice the concepts covered in class. Successful completion of the course requires the submission of graded homework and the final Quarter End Exam (QEE).
