SAN1044 – (CSBG – Required Course) The Final quarter of the Proficiency phase of Samskritam Through Bhagavad Gita program focuses on the Bhagavad Gita chapter18. At the end of this course students will be able to apply the Saṃskṛtam concepts and grammar learnt in this course to perform Anvaya translations and articulate the meanings of the ślokas. As part of this program ending course, students will also prepare a reference chart of all the Saṃskṛtam grammar concepts learnt in this course. Collaborating in groups, students will also present a summary of their learnings in this course reflecting on how the Bhagavad Gītā has impacted society.

Course Learning Objectives

In this course, students will undertake detailed study of Bhagavad Gītāin the following areas:

  • Design a reference chart of all the grammatical constructs discussed during the course.
  • Determine the padavibhāga, anvaya kramaḥ and tātparyam of ślokas in the 18th adhyāya of the Bhagavad Gītā.
  • Examine the essential concepts of Chapter 18 of the Bhagavad Gītā in Saṃskṛtam.
  • Collaborate in groups to present the summary learnings of the Bhagavad Gītā and its impact on society.

Course Content

In this final course students will continue to demonstrate their understanding of the Saṃskṛtam concepts and Bhagavad Gītā learnt so far in the course. Students will also perform the Anvaya translations and explain the meanings (tātparyam) of ślokas from chapter 18. As part of this course students will perform two additional activities 1. Produce a reference chart of all grammatical constructs covered in this program and 2. Collaborate in groups and present a summary of how teachings from the Bhagavad Gītā have impacted the society at large.

Class Structure

Students will have a dedicated 1.5 hours of contact time with the faculty each week. The class is carefully structured to facilitate effective learning in an online face-to-face format. The curriculum is designed to build upon the knowledge gained in previous classes. Regular homework assignments will provide valuable opportunities to practice the concepts covered in class. Successful completion of the course requires the submission of graded homework and the final Quarter End Exam (QEE).
