When the Rivers Spoke: Mapping the Worlds of the Ṛgveda
Recent Webinar: Sunday, January 4, 2026, 8 am PT / 11 am ET / 9:30 pm IST
About the Webinar:
Join us for a deep and enlightening webinar in which we explore the geochronological dimensions of the Rigveda — not merely as a collection of sacred hymns, but as a document embedded in a real landscape and a real historical timeline. We will examine how the ancient authors of the Rigveda named rivers, described migrations, and sketched a world whose geography can still be traced through hydronyms, river-networks, and terrain. By analyzing the 41 rivers named in the Rigveda and the order in which they appear, we will reconstruct a probable east-to-west migration path and show how these data contribute to a coherent understanding of early Vedic civilization.
This session will present compelling arguments that challenge conventional models of Aryan migration and instead support what some call an “Out of India” paradigm — showing that the Rigvedic people’s movements and the shifting courses of rivers leave detectable traces in the geological and textual record. We will discuss how chronologically significant events — including changes in river flow and possible astronomical references — help in dating various hymns and layers of composition in the Rigveda.
Whether you are a scholar, a history enthusiast, or simply curious about the origins of Vedic civilization, this webinar promises an engaging blend of geography, philology, and chronological analysis. Come with an open mind and prepare to see the ancient texts in a new light — one that merges the poetic, the spiritual, and the empirical into a living map of human history.
