HAM4104 – This course critically examines prevailing historical narratives and chronologies of ancient India, focusing on the period before AD 1192. It investigates inconsistencies in established historical timelines and explores how colonial perspectives and historiographical frameworks influenced the compression of India’s past. Through a multidisciplinary analysis of historical, archaeological, literary, and other forms of evidence, students evaluate competing interpretations and examine the proposed reconstruction of a continuous Indian historical chronology spanning 3139 BC to AD 1192. Emphasis is placed on the significance of chronological accuracy, critical inquiry, and evidence-based approaches to understanding ancient India’s historical development and civilizational continuity.
