This course will primarily focus on vyañjana-sandhis, which involve the merging of two consonants that come into immediate contact with each other, as well as Visarga sandhis, which involve a change in the visarga. Students will explore the Pāṇini sūtras (aphorisms) to understand how these consonants can be combined or separated. By the end of this quarter, students will have a comprehensive understanding of various categories of vyañjana sandhis, including Ścutva sandhiḥ, Ṣṭutva sandhiḥ, Jaśtva sandhiḥ, Cartva sandhiḥ, Anunāsika sandhiḥ, Anusvāra sandhiḥ, Parasavarṇa sandhiḥ, and Chatva sandhiḥ.
They will also be able to identify these sandhis in ślokas and other texts. These exercises will enhance their fluency in reciting ślokas and provide a better understanding of word structure. Additionally, this knowledge will aid in the analysis of Saṃskṛtam texts.
This course is the part of the program-Certificate Program in Sanskrit Proficiency- Proficiency Phase. We strongly recommend registering for the complete phase consisting of 4 quarters.
