Course Description

HAM4100 - The Course Rivers of Ṛgveda offers a journey into the Ṛgvedic period through geography maps, chronology charts and other research materials. It familiarizes the students with 41 hydronyms (river names) in Ṛgveda and 32 unique rivers mentioned in it. The students will be able to analyze the migration pattern of the Ṛgvedic People, which refutes the Aryan Invasion / Migration Theory. Students will go through the sequence in which the rivers are mentioned in Ṛgveda. Using this, they will be shown the east to west migration from what is today’s Haryana to Afghanistan. They will be able to comprehend the Out of India Theory using Ṛgveda.

Mr. Jijith Nadumuri Ravi

Jijith Nadumuri Ravi (Former Scientist ISRO), has 25 years ofexperience researching in the subject of geography and chronology of Ṛgveda, Ramayana and Mahabharata. He is an Electronics and Communication Engineering Graduate with MBA in Information Technology. He has published a dozen of research articles about Mahabharata Geography, which includes ISRO’s IRS imagery of Sarasvati River. He has published three books – Rivers or Ṛgveda, Geography of Ramayana and Geography of Mahabharata (in two volumes) which is a geo-chronology trilogy focused on the geography and chronology of Bhāratavarṣa from the Ṛgvedic Period onwards.

Course Learning Objectives

In this course students will be able to:

  • Learn the fundamental structure of Ṛgveda and comprehend the basics of Ṛgvedic Chronology.
  • Summarize the Ṛgvedic kings, Ṛṣis & Devatas.
  • Analyze the regions of Ṛgvedic geography.
  • Analyze the hydronyms (river names), each river of Ṛgveda and the Samudra (Sea) mentioned in Ṛgveda.
  • Research the pattern of migrations in Ṛgveda and the direction of migrations of the Ṛgvedic people.
  • Compare Ṛgvedic Geography and Archaeology

Course Content

The course will focus on 30+ rivers with their identification in modern geography maps, description of 80+ Ṛgvedic divinities, 400+ Ṛṣis, 200+ kings, and60+ Ṛgvedic meters. The course will align Ṛgvedic chronology with the archaeology. Many events like Dāśarājña Battle, Vārṣāgira Battle, Battle of Sarayu, Battle of Yamunā, the migration of various clans and the deeds of the devatas will be covered in short.  60+ geographical maps detailing the Ṛgvedic Geography will be discussed.

Class Structure
