Course Description

HSF3203 – This course is the third independent course in a four-part series on Integral Yoga, a distinctive spiritual path envisioned by Sri Aurobindo that seeks to transform human life into higher, luminous forms of consciousness. This ten-week course invites you to explore the higher reaches of our inner being—a vertical climb into levels of awareness that exist far above ordinary logic. We focus on breaking through the narrow boundaries of the ego to open toward a vast, universal presence. We will map the layers of this expanded consciousness, moving from the deep clarity of the Higher Mind to the direct, luminous vision of the Illumined Mind and Intuition. Through the dual movement of reaching upward and opening to a higher stillness, practices and reflections will be suggested to prepare the vessel for a peace and light that transcends the intellect. Join us to transition from surface-level thinking into a life of direct intuition and cosmic realization.

Course Learning Objectives

In this course students will be able to:

  • Recognize the patterns of the “externalizing thought-mind” and identify the subtle boundaries of the mental ego.
  • Explain the geography of higher consciousness, moving from the stage of conceptual clarity toward direct, luminous vision.
  • Describe the processes of ordinary intellectual logic and the emerging power of direct intuition.
  • Define the “double movement” of reaching upward through aspiration while allowing a higher presence to flow into the being.
  • Practice widening individual awareness beyond the limited self toward a more universal and cosmic perspective.
  • Integrate higher states of awareness into daily life, transforming how you perceive, think, and respond to the world around you.

Course Content

This is an immersive ten-week journey for those ready to move beyond the reasoning, externalizing thought-mind and discover a profound source of guidance and light. While our ordinary intellect is a vital tool, it often acts as a ceiling that limits our deeper potential. This course provides the map and practical reflections necessary to break through that ceiling and explore the
expansive reaches of our inner being.
The first phase focuses on transitioning from the narrow, logical ego to a wider state of awareness, cultivating the quietude required to perceive a higher truth. We then explore the “ladder” of consciousness—moving from the calm vastness of the Higher Mind into
the direct, luminous vision of the Illumined Mind and Intuition. We see these not as mere abstractions, but as direct bridges to a more universal knowledge.
Finally, we focus on the “vessel” of the mind. Through a dual movement of reaching upward and opening in receptive silence, we prepare the nature for a descending peace and clarity that transcends the intellect.

Class Structure

The course consists of 10 weekly sessions, each lasting 90 minutes, culminating in a final exam during the 11th week. Students will have a dedicated 1.5 hours of contact time with the faculty each week. The class is carefully structured to facilitate effective learning in an online face-to-face format. The last 15-20 minutes will be allotted for Q and A session.
