CCA and HUA Bring Ayurveda and Integrative Health to the Gujarati Indian Physicians Convention 2026 in Orlando, FL

From left to right: Dr. Mahadevan Seetharaman (Dean of the California College of Ayurveda), Dr. Mitsu Chavda-Patel (HUA student enrolled in CPHS), and Mr. Ankur Patel (HUA Director of Outreach) at the Gujarati Indian Physicians Conference in Orlando.

The California College of Ayurveda (CCA) and the Hindu University of America (HUA) were prominently represented at the Gujarati Indian Physicians Convention 2026, held August 19–23, 2026, at the Hilton Orlando in Orlando, Florida. The convention brought together Physicians, Healthcare leaders, Educators, and Professionals from across the United States for several days of Continuing Medical Education (CME), professional networking, and community engagement. The first day of the convention program featured extensive CME programming across multiple medical specialties.

For HUA and CCA, the gathering provided an important opportunity to engage directly with physicians who are increasingly interested in integrative medicine, Ayurveda, nutrition, lifestyle medicine, and whole-person approaches to health.

Integrative Medicine Takes Center Stage

A highlight of the convention was the morning CME programming focused on Integrative Medicine. The discussions reflected a growing recognition among physicians that healthcare must extend beyond treating disease to include prevention, lifestyle, nutrition, mind-body health, and personalized approaches to wellness.

HUA faculty Sree Aswath Ji, and Aparna Bapat Ji, along with Dr. Amit Shah from the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), participated in discussions that highlighted the work of HUA and CCA and introduced physicians to opportunities for engaging with Ayurveda in an academically structured environment. For many physicians, Ayurveda represents both something familiar and something newly relevant. Rooted in India’s traditional knowledge systems, Ayurveda offers frameworks for understanding constitution, digestion and metabolism, lifestyle, sleep, stress, nutrition, healthy aging, and disease prevention. At the same time, physicians want to understand these concepts through the lens of contemporary healthcare and scientific evidence.

This intersection is an important area of focus for HUA and CCA: preserving the depth and authenticity of Ayurveda while building bridges with modern medicine and evidence-informed healthcare.

Strong Physician Interest in Studying Ayurveda

At the convention, Dr. Mahadevan Seetharaman, Dean of CCA/HUA, Ankur Patel, HUA Director of Community Outreach, HUA Student, Social Media Influencer and Lawyer Mitsu Chavda and HUA Faculty Vaidya Rupali Panse interacted with physicians and healthcare professionals interested in learning more about Ayurveda. One of the most encouraging observations was the significant interest among practicing physicians in studying Ayurveda themselves.

Many physicians are not necessarily seeking to change careers. Rather, they want to understand how Ayurvedic principles can complement their existing medical knowledge and help them have broader conversations with patients about nutrition, lifestyle, stress, sleep, digestion, resilience, and prevention. CCA’s educational experience, combined with the broader academic environment of HUA, creates multiple entry points for this engagement—from introductory courses and focused continuing education to more comprehensive study of Ayurvedic medicine.

The conversations in Orlando reinforced an emerging opportunity: developing educational pathways specifically designed for physicians and other licensed healthcare professionals who want a rigorous, practical, evidence-informed introduction to Ayurveda.

Growing Interest in HUA Courses

The convention also generated interest in the broader educational offerings of the Hindu University of America. Physicians were interested not only in Ayurveda but also in courses addressing health, nutrition, wellness, Yoga, Hindu knowledge systems, philosophy, and other areas that connect traditional wisdom with contemporary life. HUA provides an important academic setting in which these subjects can be explored systematically. For busy healthcare professionals, shorter courses, certificates, webinars, and focused programs can provide accessible ways to begin learning without immediately committing to a longer professional program.

The conversations at the convention demonstrated the potential for HUA to become an important educational resource for Indian-origin physicians seeking a deeper connection with India’s knowledge traditions while applying that learning within contemporary professional settings.

AyBo: Bringing Clinical Experience into Ayurvedic Products

Another area that attracted considerable physician interest was AyBo – Ayurveda Botanicals, the emerging Ayurveda product initiative associated with the HUA-CCA ecosystem. Physicians were particularly interested in the emphasis being placed on manufacturing, quality standards, and testing in the United States. AyBo formulations are being developed with the benefit of 30 years of clinical experience at the California College of Ayurveda. This clinical foundation is important. Rather than approaching herbs simply as commercial products, the goal is to bring together traditional Ayurvedic knowledge, practitioner experience, responsible formulation, modern manufacturing, and appropriate quality testing.

For physicians accustomed to asking questions about sourcing, quality, contaminants, consistency, and manufacturing standards, this approach created considerable interest. The conversations also emphasized the importance of responsible supplement use, transparency, and quality assurance as Ayurveda becomes increasingly integrated into the American wellness and healthcare landscape.

Building a Bridge Between Ayurveda and Modern Medicine

The Gujarati Indian Physicians Convention demonstrated that the conversation around Ayurveda within the medical community is evolving. The question is increasingly not “Ayurveda or modern medicine?” but rather “Where can Ayurveda appropriately complement modern healthcare?”

Dr. Amit Shah captured the spirit of integrative medicine beautifully: Ayurveda and modern medicine should not be viewed as two competing or opposing philosophies—a Dvaita (duality)—but rather as complementary systems that can come together in the spirit of Advaita (non-duality), united by the shared goal of improving human health and well-being.

Education is central to answering that question. CCA brings three decades of experience teaching and practicing Ayurveda in the United States. HUA provides a broader University environment for structured learning, interdisciplinary dialogue, and scholarship. AyBo adds another dimension by exploring how high-quality Ayurvedic products can support practitioners and consumers.

Together, these initiatives represent a growing ecosystem connecting education, clinical practice, research, products, and integrative healthcare. The enthusiastic conversations in Orlando were an encouraging indication of what may lie ahead. As more physicians seek evidence-informed approaches to prevention and whole-person care, there is a significant opportunity for HUA and CCA to help build meaningful bridges between Ayurveda and modern medicine—while ensuring that Ayurveda’s traditional foundations remain respected and its application continues to evolve responsibly within the United States.
