The course provides Ayurvedic first aid remedies and recipes utilizing common kitchen herbs, spices, food ingredients, plants, fruits, seeds, leaves, and more.
Ayurveda offers swift remedies for many common ailments, serving as both first aid and preventive care. These remedies have been traditionally used for thousands of years, not only in the Indian subcontinent but also across various cultures worldwide. The kitchen pantry can double as a medicinal pharmacy with the right knowledge and tools to utilize all available ingredients that are part of our regular diet. Numerous herbs and spices, whether grown in the garden or commonly found at home, can aid in treating a wide range of common health issues across all age groups and stages of illness.
There will be a minimum of 1.5 contact hours with one or more faculty every week for 10 weeks.
The class is structured in a way that promotes interactive teaching, reference readings, discussion and debate. Interesting practical assignments to give hands on experience of Ayurveda cooking and nutrition. Each class will be comprised of 1 hour teaching and 30minutes for interaction on the topic.
During the course, students will complete time to time assignments. The course will conclude with compulsory examination in MCQ form and submission of an essay. They need not be academic quality papers – but should be based on students’ self-reflection on what they have learnt and assimilated so far, and what has touched and inspired them deeply.
