In this course, the students will be able to:
•Review of the alphabet and the combination letters
•The Śiva Sūtrāṇi, the pratyāhāras, and their use in the sūtras of Pāṇini
•The rules for combining consonants
•Conjunct letters by category, and triple compounds
•The Saṃskṛtam numerals
•Call-and-response recitation, as a group and individually
•Reading practice, words and conjuncts
•Handwriting practice
•Homework assignments, audio recordings and handwritten charts
Readings:
The students need to purchase the following material from American Sanskrit Institute.
This is a two-term course, each term with 15 hours of instruction in English over a 10-week period. On successful completion of both the terms students will receive 2 credits. Grading is based on participation and completion of homework assignments.
