This course introduces students to the foundational concepts of Vedanta and modern science, examining each as a distinct yet complementary framework for understanding reality. The course begins with key principles of Vedanta, focusing on the nature of the Self and the underlying reality described in the Upanishads and related texts. It then explores major developments in modern physics, including Einstein’s Theory of Relativity and quantum mechanics, with an emphasis on their implications for concepts such as space, time, causality, and the nature of the physical universe.
Building on these foundations, the course investigates the dialogue between Vedanta and contemporary scientific thought. Students will critically evaluate areas of convergence and divergence, considering how Vedanta can give a fresh perspective to some of the unresolved issues faced by the scientific community. Through interdisciplinary analysis, the course encourages rigorous intellectual engagement while making these complex ideas accessible to learners from diverse academic backgrounds. No prior knowledge of Vedanta or science is required; only an interest in exploring the intersection of ancient wisdom and scientific inquiry.
The course consists of 10 weekly sessions, each lasting 90 minutes, culminating in a final exam during the 11th week. Students will have a dedicated 1.5 hours of contact time with the faculty each week. The class is carefully structured to facilitate effective learning in an online face-to-face format. The last 15-20 minutes will be allotted for Q and A session.
