Course Description

AIH1002 – Ayurveda: The Art of Cleansing Fast and Detox Diet for Healthy Living, explores the pivotal role of fasting in health preservation, aligning with Ayurvedic principles and seasonal rituals. This course emphasizes mindful detox planning, regimens to individual constitutions and health goals. Fasting enhances metabolic functions, balances digestive fire (Agni), and eliminates toxins (ama). It delves into cultural and spiritual dimensions of traditional fasting practices, honoring their significance for personal and community health. By preserving ancient traditions, students deepen their appreciation and relevance for the timeless wisdom of Ayurveda. In essence, this course empowers students to embrace fasting as a holistic health tool, fostering vitality and harmony in body and mind.

Vaidya. Rupali Panse has completed her B.A.M.S. in year of 2001 and certificate in child counseling in 2014 from Pune university India. She has 20 + years’ experience in Clinical Ayurveda, Panchakarma and Ayurvedic nutrition. She practices as an Integrative Nutrition, Wellness and Lifestyle consultant in Orlando USA. She is Vice president, AAF (Ayurveda association of Florida), FL, USA. She has been in panel of academic expert and teaching faculty in CCIH

Course Learning Objectives

In this course, students will be able to:

  • Understand Ayurvedic principles related to cleansing, fasting, and detoxification for holistic well-being.
  • Learn fasting techniques and explore various fasting methods and their physiological effects on the body.
  • Explore detox diets including ingredients and practices for purification and rejuvenation.
  • Assess individual needs of fasting and detox plans based on individuals’ health conditions and dietary habits.
  • Develop self-awareness and mindfulness around food choices, eating habits, and the body’s signals during the cleansing and detox process.
  • Practice cooking methods and recipes conducive to cleansing and detoxification.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of cleansing fasts and detox diets through observation of physical, mental, and emotional changes in oneself and others.
  • Integrate strategies of Ayurvedic cleansing practices into daily life, including tips for maintaining balance, supporting digestion, and sustaining energy levels.

Course Content

This course offers a comprehensive exploration of diverse fasting methods and their profound impact on health and metabolism. Interactive discussions are initiated by presenting fasting cases, outlining their pros and cons, and elucidating the scientific methods for adapting to fasting. The classes are array of fasting recipes, detox diet plans, and specialized regimes such as liver and skin detox. The course delves into mind detox diets to deal with burn out, fostering mental clarity and emotional balance. Practical guidance is provided on integrating fasting and detox into busy modern lifestyles, emphasizing sustainability and efficacy. Through experiential learning, students cultivate skills to craft personalized regimens for enhanced vitality and well-being.

Class Structure

There will be a minimum of 1.5 contact hours with one or more faculty every week for 10 weeks as basic mandatory semester for the course. Voluntary 15 hours in person teaching and practical study will be offered in three days at weekend with extra credits.
The class is structured in a way that promotes interactive teaching, reference readings, discussion and debate. Interesting practical assignments to give hands on experience of Ayurveda cooking and nutrition. Each class will be comprised of 1 hour teaching and 30minutes for interaction on the topic.
During the course, students will complete time to time assignments. The course will conclude with compulsory examination in MCQ form and submission of an essay. They need not be academic quality papers – but should be based on students’ self-reflection on what they have learnt and assimilated so far, and what has touched and inspired them deeply.
The 15 hours in person teaching and extra credits will be directed towards cases discussion, diet plans and hands on experience in Ayurvedic restorative medicinal food preparation.
