Admission to the course and basic interest/ Information of Ayurveda

In this course, students will be able to:
This course is structured as a two-part, ten-week journey that integrates classical Ayurvedic wisdom with modern understandings of cardio-metabolic and inflammatory disorders. Part I focuses on foundational principles, pathogenesis, and lifestyle-based prevention, while Part II emphasizes diet, nutrition, and food-based healing. Together, these two parts offer a comprehensive, non-clinical framework for understanding, preventing, and reversing metabolic imbalance through daily life practices.
In Part I (Weeks 1–5), students explore cardio-metabolic disease through the Ayurvedic lens, examining metabolic syndrome and chronic inflammation in relation to Agni, Ama, Srotas, and Ojas. The course clarifies the distinction between Santarpanottha and Apatarpanottha disorders and maps Ayurvedic tissues—Rasa, Rakta, Medas, and Hridaya—to modern metabolic health. Learners study doshic patterns underlying obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease, with special attention to the Kapha–Medas axis, the Pitta–Rakta inflammatory pathway, and Vata’s role in disease progression and complications.
Lifestyle medicine is emphasized through an in-depth study of Swasthavritta, positioning daily routines as the primary tool for metabolic restoration. Students learn how Dinacharya and Ritucharya, sleep regulation, stress management, breathwork, meditation, and appropriate exercise can reverse metabolic dysfunction and prevent burnout-driven inflammation. The mind–body axis is explored using the Prana–Tejas–Ojas framework, broadening the understanding of inflammation beyond food alone. The first half concludes with self-assessment tools that help students identify early warning signs and lifestyle-based risk patterns before disease manifests.
In Part II (Weeks 6–10), the focus shifts to Ayurvedic nutrition and food-based healing. Students learn Agni-centric eating, proper timing, quantity, and food combining, and why calorie-counting alone fails to restore metabolism. The course covers dietary approaches for diabetes, obesity, insulin resistance, and inflammation, including Kapha-pacifying and Meda-reducing foods, fasting strategies, and practical U.S.-based substitutions. Therapeutic use of common spices and select herbs is introduced with a strong emphasis on safety and sustainability.
The course culminates in practical integration, guiding students to adapt Ayurveda to modern American life, including eating out, travel, and work-related stress. Emphasis is placed on building sustainable routines, preventing relapse, and combining lifestyle and diet for long-term cardio-metabolic balance. The final assignment invites students to create a Personal Metabolic Reset Plan, ensuring they leave the course with a realistic, lifelong strategy for health and resilience.
There will be a minimum of 1.5 contact hours with one or more faculty every week for 11 weeks.
The class is structured in a way that promotes interactive teaching, reference readings, and discussions. Interesting practical assignments to give hands on experience of Ayurveda . Each class will be comprised of 1 hour teaching and 30minutes for interaction on the topic. During the course, students will complete time to time assignments.
